Job summary

Downing Renewable Developments (DRD) is seeking an ambitious Electrical Engineer to support the development, delivery and long-term success of utility-scale solar, wind and battery storage projects in the UK.

You will work with Senior Electrical Engineer and multidisciplinary teams to manage grid connections, review designs, and support commissioning through to handover, driving technical excellence and value optimisation.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified Electrical Engineer (or related discipline).
• 3+ years' experience in renewable energy, power systems or related sector.
• Experience with electrical design, grid connections and power system studies.
• Knowledge of UK grid operators, connection processes and energy markets.
• Experience reviewing designs and identifying technical and cost efficiencies.
• Familiarity with commissioning, testing and grid compliance requirements.
• Understanding of CDM, health & safety and environmental requirements.
• Strong stakeholder management, problem-solving and project coordination skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver renewable energy projects through development and construction stages.
• Manage grid connection agreements with DNOs, TSOs, and network operators.
• Review electrical designs and power system studies for excellence and value.
• Support commissioning, testing and grid compliance activities.
• Coordinate grid connection works by ICPs and DNOs, spotting risks and opportunities.
• Lead tender processes for ICPs and electrical consultants.
• Monitor technical compliance and handover to asset management.
• Collaborate with engineering, delivery and commercial teams to solve challenges.

As DRD continues to grow its portfolio of renewable energy projects across the UK, we're looking for an ambitious Electrical Engineer to support the development, delivery and long-term success of utility-scale solar, wind and battery storage projects.

Working closely with our Senior Electrical Engineer and multidisciplinary project teams, you'll play a key role in managing grid connections, electrical design reviews, commissioning activities and technical project delivery from development through to handover.

What You'll Be Doing

• Supporting the delivery of renewable energy projects through all stages of development and construction
• Managing grid connection agreements and coordinating with DNOs, TSOs and other network operators
• Reviewing electrical designs and power system studies to ensure technical excellence and value optimisation
• Supporting commissioning, testing and grid compliance activities
• Managing grid connection works carried out by ICPs and DNOs, identifying risks and opportunities for technical and commercial improvements
• Completing tender processes for ICPs and specialist electrical consultants
• Monitoring technical compliance during project delivery and supporting successful project handover to asset management
• Collaborating with engineering, project delivery and commercial teams to solve complex technical challenges

About You

You'll be a proactive and solutions-focused engineer who enjoys working across a variety of renewable energy projects and engaging with multiple stakeholders.

• Degree-qualified Electrical Engineer (or related discipline)
• Ideally 3+ years' experience within renewable energy, power systems or a related sector
• Experience with electrical design, grid connections and power system studies
• Knowledge of UK grid operators, connection processes and energy markets
• Experience reviewing designs and identifying technical and cost efficiencies
• Familiarity with commissioning, testing and grid compliance requirements
• Understanding of CDM, health & safety and environmental requirements
• Strong stakeholder management, problem-solving and project coordination skills
