Job summary

Jacobs in Belfast is seeking a mid-level Electrical Engineer to join a multi-discipline team delivering complex semiconductor and manufacturing facility projects. You'll help design electrical systems, develop construction documents, and coordinate with process, mechanical, and BIM teams.

The role requires an honours degree in electrical engineering, 5+ years of design experience, knowledge of IEC codes, and strong English.

Qualifications

• Hons Degree Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in engineering design of building electrical systems.
• Experience in application of IEC and applicable local building/specialty codes.
• Excellent English; written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Organize, assign, and delegate necessary engineering and design tasks to produce construction documents in conjunction with a team of engineers and designers.
• Manage scope, budget and schedule to meet project goals.
• Coordinate and collaborate real time with other disciplines to develop designs.
• Take responsible charge of the electrical design, including technical accuracy, completeness, and quality of electrical construction documents.
• Analyze and design complex building systems, including medium and low voltage power systems, lighting, grounding, and process heating systems.
• Standby generator and UPS systems for critical power needs.
• Review construction submittals for conformance with the contract and design documents.
• Provide guidance and mentoring to project electrical engineers and designers on a project‑by‑project basis.

This role places you at the centre of a multi discipline, highly integrated design team delivering complex, fast paced projects for the global semiconductor manufacturing sector. You will contribute to the planning and design of advanced fabs, sub fabs, cleanrooms, and high purity utility systems, and next generation manufacturing facilities. As part of this dynamic group, you will collaborate with experts across process engineering, electrical systems, mechanical/HVAC for cleanrooms, structural design, and BIM coordination, a rich environment for a mid level designer to accelerate their technical growth.

Projects span feasibility studies, long range master planning, and full design lifecycle delivery, including programming, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction phase services for both design/bid/build and design/build execution models. You will help shape facilities where precision, contamination control, resilience, and uptime are paramount.

Our Electrical Engineers

• Are responsible for up front site selection and due diligence activities.
• Perform field activities such as observation of construction activities.
• Review construction submittals for conformance with the intent of contract and design documents.
• Provide guidance and mentoring to project electrical engineers and designers on a project‑by‑project basis.

Here’s what you’ll need

• Hons Degree Electrical Engineering
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in engineering design of building electrical systems
• Experience in application of IEC and applicable local building/specialty codes.
• Excellent English; written and spoken

Preferred Requirements

• 5 to 10 years’ experience in engineering design of building electrical systems
• Extensive experience in design of semiconductor or other advanced manufacturing facilities
• Experience in Semiconductor Tool Install and Data Centre design
• Knowledge of ATEX requirements
• Working Knowledge of Revit or BIM Software
• Working Knowledge of Electrical Design Software such as EasyPower, ETAP or SKM Power Tools
