Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer (Building Services) in a multi-office UK team (Birmingham, London or Manchester). You will lead the functional delivery of complex electrical design projects, mentor staff, manage scope and client relationships, and help grow the business through innovation and collaboration.

You will guide planning, prioritisation and checks while ensuring high-quality outputs.

Qualifications

  • Experience in building services electrical engineering design for large projects.
  • Degree in Building Services Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Proficient in Revit MEP, AutoCAD, Dialux and Amtech; familiar with regulations assessments.
  • MCIBSE / MIET CEng accreditation or actively pursuing it.
  • Strong knowledge of UK building regulations and sustainable technology integration.
  • Proven leadership and people management skills within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Attention to detail and ability to deliver high-quality, innovative solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of multidisciplinary engineering projects on time and within budget.
  • Mentor and develop team members; support recruitment and budgeting activities.

Due to our expanding portfolio and long-term local framework growth, we have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Electrical Engineer (Building Services) to join our multi-disciplinary UK buildings team in our Birmingham, London or Manchester offices.

We are looking for a person who is eager to further develop their experience and responsibilities within the Building Services Electrical sector and lead a team of engineers in the delivery of projects to time, cost and quality or in the sole management and leadership of small projects.

As a senior professional in our team, you’ll lead the functional delivery of projects—often multidisciplinary—ensuring they meet scope, time, cost, and quality expectations. You’ll be a role model, actively supporting staff and contributing to team development, resource planning, and continuous improvement.

You’ll take ownership of your work and guide others, from planning and prioritising tasks to checking calculations and ensuring high-quality outputs. Your understanding of scope, fees, and client communication will be key in managing expectations and identifying value-adding opportunities.

Beyond technical delivery, you’ll play a vital role in mentoring, promoting diversity and inclusion, and supporting strategic activities like recruitment, budgeting, and policy development. You’ll represent Jacobs in client meetings, help strengthen relationships, and contribute to winning future work.

In this role , with Jacobs, you will have opportunity to work on new build projects, refurbishments, major infrastructure and multi million pound development schemes

These projects span sectors such as High-rise Residential, District Energy Systems, Aviation, Transport, Energy and Power, Water, Data Centres, Healthcare, and more.

Here’s what you’ll need
  • Proven relevant project design experiencein building services electrical engineering
  • Degree in Building Services Mechanical Engineering orequivalent qualification/experience
  • Proficient inRevit MEP,AutoCAD,Dialux, Amtech andbuilding regulation compliance assessments
  • MCIBSE / MIET C Eng accreditation(or actively working towards it)
  • Strong knowledge ofUK building regulations
