Amazon Data Services UK Limited is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join our data centre team. You will lead the electrical distribution design from concept through construction, coordinating with cross‑functional teams to deliver resilient, cost‑effective solutions.

You will work on multi‑million dollar projects, manage equipment selections, site reviews, and ensure compliance with IEC, EU codes, and local regulations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including data centres, power generation or oil and gas facilities.
• Experience in commissioning.

Amazon Web Services is seeking an Electrical Engineer to become part of a global engineering team, responsible for the design and continuous innovation of our rapidly expanding data centre foot print.

Key job responsibilities

What you will be doing:

• Data centre electrical designs and collaboration with other disciplines to create a construction document set.
• Participating in site selection reviews and site planning activities
• Critical Data Centre equipment design including Generators, Uninterruptible Power Supplies, MV Switchgear, LV Switchgear, MV:LV Transformers, Earthing. Life Safety and Fire Detection systems
• Design and collaborate with other disciplines to create a construction document set.
• Creating of designs which meet or exceed our quality requirements and fall within our budgetary requirements.
• Working with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify the appropriate electrical equipment.
• Working with local utilities to understand and define site utility requirements.
• Working with local agencies having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with IEC, EU requirements and building codes.
• Reviewing and approval of equipment submittals.
• Defining project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to, and during construction phases.
• Working with commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems.
• Ability to work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
• Traveling to sites for site review and work with onsite field engineers, as well as provide engineering evaluations, electrical systems audits, and startup as needed.
• Being a leader within the global group as well as within internal and external teams that support Amazon’s data centres.
• Having fun and offering creative, out of the box solutions.

A day in the life

As an Electrical Engineer on our team, you'll focus on designing robust electrical distribution systems that keep our data centres running at world-class uptime. Your day might include developing design specifications, reviewing and marking up technical drawings, collaborating with cross‑functional teams on equipment qualifications, conducting site inspections, responding to design inquiries, and presenting your work to stakeholders. You'll move fluidly between desk‑based design work and on‑site activities, ensuring designs translate seamlessly from concept to construction. You'll also have opportunities to explore new technologies and construction methods that could improve how we build and operate our facilities.

About the team

The team consists of Electrical Engineers with Design Engineering backgrounds (typically having worked as Consulting Engineers with wide ranging experience), many ex‑electricians with a practical knowledge of the systems they are designing.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities
• Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data centre equipment and facilities
• Experience in commissioning

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer License
• Experience with building codes and regulations for your region
• Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
• Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
