Job summary

A well-established engineering manufacturer in Leicester is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join their team. You will be responsible for designing bespoke electrical equipment across the full product lifecycle, working closely with Engineering and Production teams. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Electrical Engineering, experience in electrical design, and proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD. A strong understanding of electrical principles is essential for this role.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in electrical design, preferably in industrial, LV/MV/HV systems.

• Experience with DFMEA, CE marking, or IEC standards is desirable.

Electrical Design Engineer - Leicester

Salary: £35,000-£40,000 (depending on experience)

About the Company

I'm currently supporting a well-established engineering manufacturer specialising in bespoke electrical components, supplying clients across a range of sectors including energy, transport, and industrial applications.

Following consistent growth, they are now seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join their established engineering team based in Leicestershire.

The Role

This is a hands-on design position working across the full product lifecycle - from concept through to production. You'll be responsible for designing bespoke and prototype electrical equipment, ensuring it meets technical, safety, and manufacturing standards.

You'll work closely with colleagues across Engineering, Production, and Test, supporting the delivery of high-quality, reliable electrical solutions.

• Produce design calculations, electrical schematics, and production documentation
• Create and issue detailed 3D models, drawings, and bills of materials using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD
• Select appropriate electrical components for control and power systems
• Carry out verification and validation of designs, ensuring compliance with relevant standards
• Support continuous improvement, product development, and engineering change processes
• Provide technical support to internal departments and external customers
• Work collaboratively within a team of skilled Electrical Engineers, delivering projects efficiently and on time

About You

The ideal candidate will be someone who enjoys practical, hands-on engineering and can hit the ground running in a busy design environment.

Essential Requirements

• Degree or HND/HNC in Electrical Engineering (or similar)
• Proven experience in electrical design (preferably industrial, LV/MV/HV systems)
• Proficient in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD
• Strong understanding of electrical principles, switchgear, and control systems
• Confident communicator and problem solver

Desirable

• Experience with DFMEA, CE marking, or IEC standards
• Exposure to mechanical design or manufacturing principles
• Knowledge of resistor design, load banks, or similar bespoke electrical products
