Job summary

Automation Experts in West Yorkshire is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to design electrical control systems for complex machinery in a UK engineering manufacturing setting.

You will produce detailed schematics, select components, and develop BOMs while collaborating with mechanical teams to ensure integrated solutions. The role offers hybrid/flexible working after probation and opportunities to expand PLC programming knowledge.

Qualifications

• Experience designing electrical industrial control panels, preferably for machinery or OEM settings.
• Proficient with AutoCAD Electrical or willing to transition from AutoCAD.
• Strong understanding of control panels, schematics, and component selection.

Electrical Design Engineer

Salary: £35,000–£45,000 plus comprehensive benefits including healthcare, pension, and death in service.

Role Overview

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will design and develop electrical control systems for complex, engineered‑to‑order machinery in a UK engineering manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Design electrical control panels and systems.
• Produce detailed electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical.
• Select and specify electrical and electronic components for control panels.
• Produce BOMs and support procurement activities.
• Collaborate with mechanical and project teams to ensure integrated design solutions.
• Provide occasional site visits (no commissioning‑heavy travel).
• Opportunity to develop PLC programming knowledge.

Qualifications

• Experience with electrical industrial control panel design, preferably in machinery or OEM settings.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical or willingness to transition from AutoCAD.
• Strong understanding of control panels, schematics, and component selection.
• Ability to produce accurate technical documentation and BOMs.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Qualified or working towards a qualification in Electrical or Electronic Engineering with a solid academic foundation.
• Experience in control panel design and/or build, including sizing and selection of switchgear and associated components.

Location: West Yorkshire – commutable from Leeds, Bradford, Guiseley, Shipley, Brighouse, Huddersfield, Wakefield, Keighley, Dewsbury and surrounding areas. Potential for hybrid/flexible working after probation.
