Job summary

A leading engineering firm in the UK is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to provide technical leadership in the design of electrical and instrumentation systems. The ideal candidate will possess excellent electrical engineering knowledge, strong management skills, and a relevant background in electrical design. This is a full-time contract position with a negotiable package.

• Able to undertake design work with little supervision.
• Full computer literacy and valid UK driving licence.

We have the following vacancy for an Electrical Design Engineer.

Job Description

The successful candidate will provide a technical lead in the electrical/ICA scoping and design of electrical and instrumentation systems. This will involve working in multidisciplinary teams of civil, mechanical, process and electrical/ICA engineers.

Typical duties include:

• Preparation of, or supervision of preparation of, drawings for plant general arrangements, power single line diagrams, cable block diagrams, instrumentation loop diagrams, P&IDs, control system architecture drawings, and cable, instrument and I/O schedules
• Production of documentation, including user requirement specifications/control philosophies, tender documentation (including particular electrical and ICA specifications), schedules of prices and engineer's estimates
• Liaison with and management of electrical subcontract partners (MCC suppliers, telemetry providers, electrical installation)
• Downstream gas experience would be advantageous
• Able to undertake design work with little supervision
• Excellent electrical engineering knowledge, able to advise other disciplines regarding aspects of design as it impacts electrical engineering issues
• Able to demonstrate a broad experience in LV distribution systems, motor control centres/control panels, electrical installation, PLCs control system networking, SCADA and telemetry systems, and DSEAR regulations
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to integrate into the existing multidisciplinary design team
• Demonstrable experience in managing teams to successfully deliver project objectives within time and budget
• Able to perform project and programme management duties and understand the commercial and financial consequences of actions
• Progressive and imaginative in your work, striving to add value where possible for the benefit of the company and our clients
• Active and enthusiastic participant in specialist discipline communities, driving consistency and improvement in specialist discipline for the benefit of the wider team and business
• Demonstrate continuing maintenance of professional development and knowledge of current and emerging technical solutions
• Fully computer literate
• Valid UK driving licence

6 month contract / Full time / Package – negotiable
