Job summary

Randstad Construction & Property is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join our established local team in Swansea. You will deliver electrical design packs, schematics and panel layouts for automated equipment, ensuring compliance and timely delivery.

You will specify components, cables and protection, support tender activities, and collaborate across workshop, software and operations to keep projects on track. Strong EPLAN and AutoCAD Electrical skills required.

Qualifications

• Proven experience designing electrical control systems and control panels for automated equipment or machinery.
• Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and control drawings.
• Experience creating manufacturing-ready design packs including BOMs, cables, and layouts.

Responsibilities

• Produce and maintain comprehensive design packs using EPLAN and AutoCAD Electrical (schematics, panel layouts, BOMs).
• Specify components, cable sizing and protection devices per client and safety specs.
• Support projects and tenders with feasible, cost-conscious design decisions and negotiations.
• Collaborate with workshop, software and operations teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and on schedule.
• Create commissioning test documentation and validation procedures for site handover.
• Provide hands-on electrical troubleshooting during build and installation.
• Ensure all design work meets machinery, safety and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Electrical Design & Documentation: Produce and maintain comprehensive design packs using EPLAN Electric P8 and AutoCAD Electrical, including schematics, panel layouts, terminal plans, cable schedules, and BOMs.
• System Specification: Specify components, size cables and protection devices, and build compliant control system solutions tailored to client and safety specifications.
• Project & Tender Support: Conduct feasibility assessments, make cost-conscious design decisions, assist with quotations, and resolve technical queries during project delivery.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with workshop, software, and operations teams to guarantee designs are functional, manufacturable, and delivered on schedule.
• Testing & Validation: Create test sheets and validation procedures to streamline factory testing, commissioning, and final site handover.
• Hands-on Troubleshooting: Provide practical engineering support to resolve electrical design or assembly issues during build and installation.
• Standards & Compliance: Ensure all design work meets current machinery, safety, and industry regulatory standards.

Key Requirements & Skills

• Proven experience designing electrical control systems and control panels for automated equipment or machinery.
• Proficiency with EPLAN Electric P8 and AutoCAD Electrical.
• Strong knowledge of component selection, cable sizing, and circuit protection.
• Experience creating full electrical design packs (schematics, panel layouts, BOMs, cable schedules).
• Ability to generate commissioning test documentation and compliance procedures.
• Practical problem-solving skills for workshop and site-level troubleshooting.
