Job summary

Royal IHC in Newcastle is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join the Offshore Energy team in the city centre. You will work on complex bespoke projects, delivering high-quality electrical designs throughout their lifecycle.

The role combines hands-on design, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration with project teams. You will contribute to standardisation, support commissioning, and ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering (or similar).
• Experience in a project-driven engineering environment.
• Strong experience in electrical design: power distribution (230V & 440VAC), machine control, control panels.

Responsibilities

• Design electrical systems for bespoke projects.
• Write technical specifications and select components.
• Support project costing and budgeting activities.
• Provide technical support to customers and internal stakeholders.
• Prepare inspection, test and FAT documentation.
• Contribute to standardisation and efficiency improvements in the Electrical Department.

Electrical Design Engineer – Offshore Energy | Newcastle

We are looking for a proactive and motivated Electrical Design Engineer to join our Electrical Design Team in Newcastle city centre. In this role, you will work on a variety of complex, bespoke engineering projects within our Offshore Energy product group.

This is a hands-on, technical role where you will contribute directly to the design, delivery and optimisation of high-quality engineering solutions.

Your role

As part of the Electrical Design team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality electrical designs and supporting projects throughout their lifecycle.

Your responsibilities include:

• Designing electrical systems and solutions for bespoke engineering projects
• Writing technical specifications and selecting appropriate components
• Supporting project costing and budgeting activities
• Providing technical support to customers and internal stakeholders
• Preparing inspection, test and FAT documentation
• Contributing to standardisation and efficiency improvements within the Electrical Department
• Delivering engineering work packages and projects with minimal supervision
• Ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget
• Supporting commissioning and installation activities
• Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams across the business

What you bring

• Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering (or similar)
• Experience in a similar role within a project-driven, engineering environment
• Strong experience in electrical design, including:
  • Power distribution systems (230V & 440VAC)
  • Machine control and instrumentation systems
  • Control panel design
  • Motor starter and VSD design
• Experience with Electrical CAD tools (EPLAN Electric P8 preferred)
• Familiarity with ISO9001 or similar quality standards
• Knowledge of marine and offshore environments (preferred)
• Understanding of DNV GL and Lloyd’s standards
• Experience with subsea systems and/or high voltage systems is an advantage
• Knowledge of functional safety standards (e.g. IEC61508, IEC61511, IEC13849) is a plus
• Commissioning and testing experience is beneficial
