Job summary

A leading engineering consultancy in the East Midlands is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join its design team on remote basis with occasional expectations in the Derby office. The successful candidate will produce high-quality designs for rail infrastructure projects, focusing on low voltage systems and must be proficient in MicroStation. This 3-month rolling contract offers an income of GBP350 to GBP400 per month and is outside IR35, with a strong possibility for extension.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as an Electrical Designer within the UK rail sector.
• Essential proficiency with MicroStation; must be able to produce designs using this software from day one.
• Strong background in LV electrical design, experience with station systems and signalling power.

Overview

Are you an Electrical Design Engineer with experience working on LV based Rail projects? Are you proficient in Microstation 2d and looking for your next Outside IR35 role?

Due to key project demands, my client is seeking an experienced and capable Electrical Design Engineer to join their busy design team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an Electrical Design Engineer who can hit the ground running and make an immediate impact on a variety of rail infrastructure projects. As Electrical Design Engineer will be a key player in producing high‑quality designs for station schemes, signalling power, and E&P works.

Responsibilities

• Produce detailed LV designs using MicroStation 2d including design calculations and cable sizing.
• Produce high‑quality designs for station schemes, signalling power, and E&P works.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Proven experience as an Electrical Designer within the UK rail sector.
• Essential proficiency with MicroStation; must be able to produce designs using this software from day one.
• Strong background in LV electrical design (e.g., station systems, points heating, signalling power).
• Experience working to Network Rail standards and processes.

Desirable Skills

• Experience using ETAP software.
• Familiarity with BIM processes and 3D modelling.
• Previous experience as a CRE (Contractors Responsible Engineer) is beneficial but not essential.
