Hours of work: Full Time - 37.50 per week
Working Arrangements: Hybrid working option available with 3 days working on site

The Role

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you'll provide expert electrical design capability across major fusion research and engineering programmes. You'll be responsible for the design and specification of electrical systems, ensuring high technical standards and compliance with international regulations.

Working collaboratively within a skilled team of mechanical, control, and systems engineers, you will:

  • Design complex electrical systems for automation, robotics, motion control, LV distribution, and PLC-based control.
  • Produce detailed drawings and technical documentation using database-driven CAD applications such as SolidWorks Electrical, EPLAN, or AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Perform calculations for cable sizing, load estimation, and circuit protection.
  • Select appropriate components and manage library data integrity.
  • Conduct formal design checks and present work at technical reviews.
  • Coordinate electrical design tasks to meet project priorities and deadlines.
About You

You’ll bring both creativity and rigour to your electrical design work, with a strong eye for safety, quality, and innovation.

Essential
  • HNC or higher in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience designing electrical systems using database-driven ECAD software.
  • Working knowledge of BS EN 60204, BS 7671 and other relevant international standards.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and strong communication skills in English.
  • Sound understanding of design for manufacture principles.
Desirable
  • Familiarity with SmarTeam PDM or similar configuration tools.
  • Experience in automation, process plant, or robotic systems.
  • Knowledge of functional safety principles.
  • BS #removed#th Edition certification.
  • Awareness of fusion, cryogenics, or remote-handling design environments (advantageous but not essential).
