Job summary

Advance Training & Recruitment Services is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to support complex engineering projects. This role is hybrid based in Abingdon, requiring 3 days on-site.

You will deliver electrical designs, produce technical documentation, and ensure compliance with safety regulations. The ideal candidate has a strong Electrical Engineering background, Control & Instrumentation experience, and SolidWorks CAD proficiency.

This contract position extends until March 2027 with a pay rate of £55/hr Umbrella.

Qualifications

• Electrical Engineering background with Control & Instrumentation experience.
• Knowledge of UK/EU electrical standards including BS EN 60204-1.
• Solid Works (Electrical) CAD experience is essential.
• Strong design, technical documentation, and communication skills required.
• Relevant qualifications like Degree/HNC/HND or equivalent are necessary.
• Proficient in drawing standards, especially BS EN 61082.

Electrical Design Engineer

Role

Opportunity for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to support complex engineering projects, delivering designs from concept to detailed stage across major systems.

What You’ll Do

• Accountable for supporting design work on major fusion sub-systems, from concept through to detailed design on enhancement programs for facilities as well as for future fusion devices.
• Accountable for design aspects relating to all assigned systems / components including repair, replacement or upgrade activities.
• Deliver electrical designs, upgrades, and modifications.
• Produce technical documentation (drawings, BoMs, cable schedules).
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
• Support design validation and collaborate with wider teams.
• Apply design for manufacture and value engineering principles.

Requirements

• Electrical Engineering background with Control & Instrumentation experience
• Knowledge of UK/EU electrical standards (incl. BS EN 60204-1)
• Solid Works (Electrical) CAD experience
• Strong design, technical documentation, and communication skills
• Relevant qualification (Degree/HNC/HND or equivalent)
• Proficient in the knowledge and application of recognised drawing standards and BS EN 61082 in particular

Desirable

• BS 7671 (18th Edition)
• Experience with SolidWorks Electrical (currently used), EPLAN, or AutoCAD Electrical

BPSS clearance will be required
