Day Electrical Engineer – Prestigious University Site Location: Prestigious University Site

Hours: Monday to Friday, rotational shifts between 6:00am – 7:00pm

Role Type: Full-time, Permanent

About the Role Our client is seeking a Day Electrical Engineer to join their team at a prestigious university site. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a high-profile environment, offering strong career progression and exposure to a diverse range of electrical systems.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance services, while working collaboratively with General Maintenance Assistants and wider facilities teams.

Key Responsibilities Maintenance & Operations
  • Deliver comprehensive electrical repair and maintenance services across all university buildings, systems, plant, and equipment.
  • Carry out statutory, mandatory, planned preventative, and reactive maintenance activities.
  • Perform fault-finding and diagnostic works to maintain system reliability and uptime.
  • Accurately interpret drawings, instructions, and technical specifications.
Safety & Compliance
  • Carry out all tasks safely and efficiently in compliance with current legislation, manufacturer guidance, and company Health & Safety procedures.
  • Work safely in hazardous areas, confined spaces, and on contaminated equipment using appropriate PPE.
  • Prepare plant and equipment for independent insurance inspections to ensure statutory compliance.
Asset & Project Support
  • Maintain and update asset registers accurately.
  • Assist with minor installation works, including setting out tasks, identifying materials, and sourcing tools and equipment.
  • Conduct pre-installation inspections and assess service requirements for new or upgraded equipment.
  • Carry out site surveys and report defects to the appropriate manager.
Team & Contractor Coordination
  • Occasionally oversee the work of service contractors.
  • Liaise with the Asset Manager regarding plant, equipment, and building fabric failures.
  • Support colleagues by providing instruction and guidance on specific tasks.
  • Assist with the induction and training of new starters, apprentices, and maintenance staff.
Systems & Administration
  • Complete daily administrative duties, including accurate and timely completion of work dockets, tickets, and logbooks.
  • Use CAFM systems, PDAs, BMS, work permit systems, and ordering platforms following appropriate training.
Additional Duties
  • Undertake a range of maintenance tasks outside the core electrical discipline where required.
  • Safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, scaffolding, and associated equipment.
  • Provide support during emergencies and assist with out-of-hours work when required.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Completed Electrical Apprenticeship or NVQ / City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of emergency lighting systems and maintenance.
  • 17th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification (willingness to obtain 18th Edition).
  • Basic understanding of Health & Safety regulations within the construction and building maintenance environment.
Skills & Attributes
  • Strong technical knowledge of electrical systems within building maintenance environments.
  • High attention to detail, with the ability to accurately record maintenance and repair information.
  • Competent IT skills, including the use of handheld/mobile devices for job management.
  • Flexible, proactive, and team-oriented approach to work.
