Job summary

Cranleigh Scientific seeks an Electrical & Controls Project Engineer (onsite) to lead electrical/control projects in Cambridgeshire. You will support maintenance, project, and process activities, delivering improvements to safety, reliability and production performance.

You will work with cross‑functional teams to design specifications, maintain documentation, and drive projects from concept to implementation, ensuring minimal downtime.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience in electrical controls and instrumentation within manufacturing.
• Knowledge of PLC systems (Rockwell Logix 5000/500) and RSView.
• Experience with industrial drives such as Allen-Bradley and ABB.
• Familiarity with SIL/Safety PLCs and ATEX requirements.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with HAZOP and FMEA risk assessments.
• CAD skills with AutoCAD or EPLAN.
• Project planning and schedule management to minimise production disruption.

Responsibilities

Our client, a leader in the manufacture of advanced composite materials, is seeking an experienced Electrical & Controls Project Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in delivering electrical and controls engineering projects that improve safety, reliability, and production performance. Working within a collaborative engineering team, you will lead continuous improvement initiatives, support manufacturing operations, and contribute to the development of innovative engineering solutions.

The Role

About You

• A degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
• Experience in electrical controls and instrumentation engineering.
• Previous experience within a manufacturing or process environment.
• Knowledge of PLC systems, including Rockwell Logix 5000 & 500 and RSView.
• Understanding of safety systems, including SIL and Safety PLCs.
• Experience with industrial drives such as Allen Bradley and ABB.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills, including experience with 4-20mA instrumentation loops and controllers.
• Familiarity with risk assessment methodologies such as HAZOP and FMEA.
• Knowledge of ATEX requirements, commissioning processes, and machine safety standards.
• Competence in Microsoft Office and basic CAD software such as AutoCAD or EPlan.

Due to the nature of this business, applicants must be eligible to comply with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements. Sponsorship is not available for this role and all candidate must have existing right to work in the UK on a permanent basis.
