Astute’s Power Team are working with one of the country’s leading Waste Management companies and supporting the recruitment of their newest Energy from Waste facility. The Lostock Sustainable Energy Plant is currently under construction, and when complete will be exporting ~70MW of electricity to the grid, processing circa 600,000 tonnes of waste per year.

We are looking for an Electrical, Control and Instrumentation Technician to join the Maintenance Team of this exciting project. As an EC&I Technician, you’ll be responsible for carrying out reactive and preventative maintenance across a variety of critical EC&I assets. You’ll also be involved with supporting commissioning activities and working towards the plants operational handover.

Responsibilities and duties of the Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation Technician role

Reporting directly to the EC&I Team Leader, as an EC&I Technician, you will be responsible for:

  • Pre-planned and reactive maintenance duties on all electrical, controls and instrumentation assets across the power station
  • Fault finding/maintaining mostly electrical system; motors, drives, single phase & three phase equipment, switchgear, high/low voltage plant etc. and Instrumentation (pressure, temperature, level & flow) and control systems
  • Calibrating instrumentation
  • Conducting continuous improvement activities, plant modifications and design work
  • Supervising 3rd party contractors
  • Working in line with maintenance techniques and best practices
  • Assisting in plant developments and projects
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records on the site CMMS
  • Assist in outage planning, scheduling and coordination.
  • To ensure the availability of plant spares
Professional qualifications
  • Ideally qualified in a recognised Electrical / C&I apprenticeship in a heavy process industry
  • A relevant technical qualification such as an NVQ / ONC / HNC in Electrical, Control or Instrumentation engineering or a similar discipline
  • IOSH or NEBOSH would be advantageous
Personal skills
  • At least 5 years of hands‑on maintenance experience with motors, switchgear, instrumentation (flow, level, pressure, temperature etc) and control systems (SCADA, DCS and PLC)
  • Practical knowledge of process plant and equipment gained in a heavy engineering environment such as power generation, petrochemical, steel works, CHP plant, paper mill etc. Royal Navy Marine Engineers will also be considered.
  • Experience with High‑Voltage equipment such as transformers / switchgear will be advantageous.
