Astute’s Power team is partnering with a leading energy generation company to recruit an Electrical Controls and Instrumentation Engineer to be based at their site in Sittingbourne, Kent.

The EC&I Engineer role comes with a salary of up to 74,000 + private medical insurance + benefits.

Responsibilities and duties of the EC&I Engineer

As the EC&I Engineer you will:

  • Act as the Senior Authorised Person (SAP) for high-voltage systems, ensuring the safe operation, isolation, and energisation of HV equipment.
  • Lead and develop a team of EC&I Technicians, setting clear priorities, managing workloads, and providing technical guidance.
  • Maintain and optimise control and instrumentation systems, including DCS, PLCs, SCADA, HV/LV switchgear, and field instrumentation.
  • Ensure the reliability and compliance of Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) in accordance with environmental permit standards.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex electrical and control system faults to minimise downtime and maximise plant efficiency.
  • Support outage planning, execution, and delivery of capital projects, ensuring safety and quality standards are met.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across safety, performance, and operational reliability.
Professional qualifications
  • HNC/HND (or higher) in Electrical, Electronic, or Control & Instrumentation Engineering.
  • Authorised or Senior Authorised Person (SAP) status on HV systems, or demonstrable experience working towards this level.
  • Proven leadership or supervisory experience, ideally managing multi‑skilled engineering teams.
  • Strong working knowledge of HV/LV systems, PLCs, DCS, SCADA, and instrumentation in a process or power generation environment.
  • Hands‑on EC&I maintenance background with competence in CEMS, CMMS systems, and project planning tools.
