Job description

Vulcain Engineering, an international engineering consultancy, supports global industrial leaders in their transition to a more responsible and sustainable future. We support our customers in the design, construction, commissioning and operation of their complex infrastructure projects that will shape the world of tomorrow. With operations in 17 countries and employing over 6,000 staff worldwide, our business responds to the needs of our clients by delivering high-value engineering expertise tailored to our clients’ most complex challenges.

In the UK, we have a key focus in the Nuclear sector, contributing to ground breaking projects, such as Sizewell C (SZC).

The Position: Electrical Construction Engineer

As we continue to grow, we are seeking an Electrical Construction Engineer to join our South West nuclear construction team in Bridgwater, Somerset. In this position, you will be responsible for supporting and overseeing the installation, inspection, and commissioning readiness of electrical systems across a major regulated infrastructure programme.

The role will involve ensuring electrical installation activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with design requirements, quality standards, and project schedules. This includes reviewing technical documentation produced by the design authority, supporting field installation teams, resolving technical queries, and ensuring installed systems meet contractual and regulatory requirements.

Some of the main responsibilities of the Electrical Construction Engineer will include:
  • Support the planning, coordination, and execution of electrical installation activities across a range of power, distribution, lighting, and associated C&I systems.
  • Review and interpret electrical design documentation, including drawings, specifications, schematics, cable schedules, and installation instructions.
  • Provide technical support to construction and installation teams, ensuring work is completed in accordance with approved designs and quality requirements.
  • Monitor installation progress, identifying and resolving engineering and technical issues that may impact safety, quality, or programme delivery.
  • Support inspection and verification activities to ensure electrical installations comply with project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering, construction, commissioning, and quality teams to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Assist in the management of technical queries, non-conformances, and design change requests relating to electrical installation activities.
  • Contribute to construction planning and work package development, ensuring installation activities are effectively sequenced and resourced.
  • Apply industry best practice and lessons learned to continuously improve installation methods, safety performance, and project outcomes.
  • Support commissioning readiness activities, ensuring electrical systems are installed, documented, and handed over in accordance with project requirements.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders across Vulcain and partner organisations, providing electrical engineering expertise throughout the construction phase and helping to ensure that installation activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

Alongside a commitment to our values, we are looking for individuals who can bring the following essential skills and experience:

  • Minimum HNC or HND in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • An engineering degree in Electrical Engineering would be advantageous.
  • Experience supporting or delivering electrical installation activities within industrial, infrastructure, energy, utilities, or other regulated environments.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems and installation practices, with the ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of construction, installation, inspection, and testing requirements for electrical systems.
  • Experience managing or supporting engineering work packages within a major project or programme environment.
  • Ability to identify and resolve technical issues while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and programme delivery.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary project teams and across multiple organisational interfaces.
  • Understanding of relevant industry standards, regulations, and quality requirements associated with electrical installation activities.

Please note that visa sponsorship is not guaranteed and is assessed on a case-by-case basis, depending on role criticality and project needs. Many of our UK projects require high-level security clearance, meaning we can often only consider candidates with an existing, indefinite right to work in the UK. Exceptionally, we may consider visa sponsorship for applicants with niche experience aligned to our core work (e.g. EPR/nuclear new build).
