Job description

At Tata Steel Colors in Shotton, we make some of the UK's most advanced pre‑finished steel products - used in everything from landmark buildings to kitchen appliances. We're looking for a driven, hands‑on Electrical Engineer to join our engineering function and help keep our lines running safely, reliably and efficiently. This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong technical background who's ready to step up and make a difference - leading a small team, working cross‑functionally, and taking real ownership of electrical systems performance across your line.

What you will do
  • Driving safety performance and embedding a zero‑harm culture in your team
  • Owning your area's maintenance plans and performance metrics
  • Having responsibility to manage and lead a small electrical team, external support contractors and all electrical elements of a major production line
  • Delivering fault‑finding and improvements using tools like RCA and strategic planning
  • Coordinating with planners and operations to deliver shutdown and maintenance work
  • Managing budgets, improvement projects, spares, and third‑party contractors
  • Closing out Near Misses and audit actions with a proactive mindset
  • Being a visible leader – coaching, supporting and inspiring others to do things better
  • Manage Automation support contracts with OEM
  • Identify & deliver electrical obsolescence strategy for your line

You’ll be part of a site‑wide network of engineers, sharing learning, standardising processes, and influencing engineering strategy at Shotton.

We’re not just after someone who knows their way around a circuit diagram. We want someone who’s forward‑thinking, a great communicator, and who thrives on leading others to success.

Qualifications
  • Completed an Electrical Apprenticeship with a qualification in Electrical Engineering (ideally HNC or Degree qualified)
  • Experience with managing personnel
  • Good working knowledge of PLC, Automation & Control systems (Siemens or Allen Bradley Preferred)
  • Experience of AC & DC inverter drives
  • Knowledge of Hydraulics & Pneumatics desirable
  • Solid hands‑on maintenance experience in manufacturing or process industries
  • Strong understanding of statutory requirements and safe systems of work
  • Confidence managing workloads, priorities, budgets and people
  • A proactive mindset – someone who spots problems and gets stuck in to solve them
Benefits
  • A market competitive salary
  • 35 days holidays per annum
  • Annual Pay Review
  • Quarterly Bonus Scheme – subject to business performance
  • Private Healthcare Scheme (Individual cover)
  • One of the UK's leading defined contribution pension schemes (10% employer contribution / 6% employee contribution)
