Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Maintenance Manager to plan and prioritise work.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and ensure logging in SAP.
  • Respond rapidly to equipment breakdowns and perform repairs.

Electrical and Mechanical Shift Engineer

Location: Dunstable, Bedfordshire. Salary: £45,133.92 per annum. Contract: Full-time, Permanent. Shifts: Rotational, see below.

About the Role

Siamo Recruitment is currently seeking an experienced Electrical and Mechanical Shift Engineer to join our client's well-established, family-run food manufacturing business based in Dunstable, Bedfordshire. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of production equipment and supporting continuous improvement within a busy food production environment.

What's on Offer

Full-time, permanent position.

Rotational shift pattern
  • Monday - Friday: 06:00 - 14:00 (£22.79 per hour)
  • Monday - Thursday: 13:45 - 23:45 (£25.76 per hour)
Overtime rates
  • Weekdays x1.5
  • Weekends x1.75

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Maintenance Manager to plan and prioritise work to minimise downtime and maximise production efficiency.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and ensure all activities are accurately logged in SAP.
  • Respond rapidly to equipment breakdowns, performing effective and efficient repairs to minimise disruption.
  • Deliver high standards of maintenance across plant, machinery, and facilities during production.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for cost reduction, process improvement, and enhanced efficiency.
  • Support hygiene and safety audits, assisting with planned shutdowns when required.
  • Promote and maintain a strong health and safety culture throughout the engineering function.
  • Participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota when required.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience Required
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English (Grades A-C)
  • 18th Edition Electrical Wiring Regulations
  • HND/HNC in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Proven experience within the food manufacturing or FMCG sector
  • Strong electrical and/or mechanical background with hands-on maintenance experience
  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Customer-focused with a proactive, problem-solving attitude
  • Ability to adapt to change and manage a varied workload
  • Confident decision-making and influencing skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
Desirable Skills and Experience
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD software
  • Experience with PLC programming and fault finding
  • Valid FLT licence
  • IPAF 3a & 3b or equivalent certification
  • Understanding of quality systems and associated documentation
