Job summary

Hexcel is seeking an Electrical and Controls Project Engineer for our Duxford site in the UK. The role focuses on leading electrical/control system projects for manufacturing equipment, creating documentation, and coordinating with stakeholders to minimize downtime.

The candidate should hold a degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, have manufacturing experience, and be familiar with PLCs (Rockwell Logix 5000/500, RSView), safety systems, and industrial drives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with electrical controls/instrumentation focus.
• Experience in manufacturing or process environments.
• Knowledge of PLC systems (Rockwell Logix 5000/500, RSView).
• Understanding of safety systems (SIL, Safety PLCs).
• Knowledge of industrial drives (Allen Bradley, ABB).
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills (4-20mA loops, controllers).
• Familiarity with risk assessment methods (HAZOP, FMEA).
• Understanding of ATEX, commissioning, and machine safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Support maintenance, project, and process activities to improve safety and production efficiency.
• Lead continuous improvement projects from concept through to electrical and control system specifications for manufacturing equipment.
• Create and maintain electrical, instrumentation, and control documentation.
• Liaise with internal stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
• Support site breakdowns and restore production in a timely manner.
• Participate in technical support call-out rota to minimise downtime.
• Propose and implement control system improvements across the site.
• Plan and manage project timelines, ensuring minimal disruption to production.
• Communicate project progress effectively to stakeholders and management.
