Job description

  • Lead and develop a team of solicitors handling high-value, multi-track EL/PL claims

  • Step into leadership from Senior Associate level, with responsibility for your own team and continued career progression

  • Highly flexible working – ideally 1 office day per week, with a minimum requirement of just 2 days per month

If you’re an experienced Serious Injury Solicitor looking to move into leadership – or an existing Team Leader ready for your next challenge – this role gives you the opportunity to lead without stepping away from technical work altogether.

You’ll take responsibility for a team of 6–7 Solicitors handling high-value, multi-track EL/PL claims, providing technical guidance, monitoring performance and supporting their professional development. Around 25% of your chargeable time will remain focused on your own small caseload, keeping you close to the work while giving you the capacity to lead effectively.

The position has initially arisen as maternity cover but is expected to become permanent. You’ll be joining at an important point in the department’s growth, with recent acquisitions expanding the wider EL/PL practice and creating further opportunities as teams are brought together.

You can be based in Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Bristol or Cardiff. The firm offers significant autonomy around where you work, with weekly office attendance preferred but only two days per month
required.

Who we’re looking for

  • Grade A Solicitor qualified in England and Wales with a current practising certificate (E)

  • Significant experience managing multi-track EL/PL and serious injury claims (E)

  • Strong technical understanding of Employers’ Liability and Public Liability law (E)

  • Existing experience managing a team of Solicitors, or strong supervision and mentoring experience at Senior Associate level with the ambition to move into leadership (E)

  • Ability to provide technical guidance on complex claims (E)

  • Experience conducting your own advocacy (E)

  • Confidence reviewing files and maintaining high technical and regulatory standards (E)

  • Ability to monitor performance and support others to achieve their objectives (E)

  • Strong communication and people-management skills (E)

  • Commercial awareness and a collaborative approach (E)

  • Business development and referral-generation experience (D)

What you’ll be doing

  • Ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements

  • Managing conflicts of interest and addressing ethical issues where required

  • Coaching, mentoring and supporting the professional development of team members

  • Managing your own small caseload of EL/PL matters

  • Spending approximately 25% of your chargeable time on your own files

  • Supporting the integration and consolidation of EL/PL teams as the practice grows

  • Developing local relationships and securing referral opportunities
