About the role

The Environmental, Health, Safety and Quality (EHSQ) and Fire Compliance Manager will be a key position within the EHSQ team as well as a support role to the Edinburgh Airport Fire & Rescue Service. They will be responsible for fire compliance and ensuring that the organisation maintains high standards across health, safety and quality activities too. This role acts as a central point of expertise and assurance, including overseeing incident investigations, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring that all fire safety and EHSQ obligations are met across the campus. The successful candidate will work collaboratively across departments to embed a culture of compliance and continuous improvement.

About the Recruitment Process

The recruitment process for this role will comprise of a two stage interview process. You will meet with our Head of EHSQ and our Head of Fire Strategy for a competency based interview, which will include a presentation to be confirmed ahead of the interview. You will also get the opportunity to meet other stakeholders relevant to the team to further your understanding of the role.

What you'll be doing

As the EHSQ and Fire Compliance Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and continuous improvement of environmental, health, safety, quality (EHSQ), and fire safety standards across the campus.

  • Act as the subject matter expert on fire safety, advising on legislation, standards, and best practices.
  • Lead fire risk assessments and ensure findings are actioned appropriately.
  • Liaise with fire authorities and ensure compliance with statutory fire regulations whilst looking for best practice.
  • Oversee and assure the incident investigation process, ensuring root cause analysis is thorough and corrective actions are implemented and closed in a timely manner.
  • Monitor trends and provide insights to prevent recurrence of incidents.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports for internal and external audits programmes.
  • Support the development and implementation of EHSQ and Fire Safety strategies aligned with organisational goals including any emergency response plans.
  • Conduct audits and inspections to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and proactive risk management.
  • Deliver or coordinate fire safety and EHSQ training programs for staff and contractors.
  • Raise awareness and promote best practices through campaigns, briefings, and toolbox talks.
  • Maintain and update EHSQ and fire safety documentation, including policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
  • Prepare reports and dashboards for senior management, regulatory bodies and the fire safety compliance group (FSCG).
  • Collaborate with property, operations, and project teams to embed safety and compliance into all activities.
  • Provide expert guidance during design, refurbishment, and construction projects to ensure fire safety compliance.
What we're looking for
  • This role requires the successful candidate to obtain a Counter Terrorist Check, so you must have been living in the UK for the last 3 consecutive years.
  • Qualification in a relevant subject (NEBOSH, IFE Level 3 or above) preferably two.
  • A self-starter with strong inter-personal skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Proven experience in a similar EHSQ and/or Fire Compliance role, ideally in a complex or campus-based environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK fire safety legislation (e.g., Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005) and EHSQ regulations.
  • Proficient in incident investigation methodologies (e.g., 5 Whys, Root Cause Analysis).
  • Understanding of ISO Standards (ISO9001 Quality, ISO14001 Environment, ISO45001 OH&S).
  • Competent in using EHSQ management systems and reporting tools.
