Job summary

Univar Solutions is seeking an EHS Specialist on a fixed-term contract to support health, safety and environmental standards at the site. The role is based in the UK and open to applicants from elsewhere in the UK.

You will implement safe systems of work, perform risk assessments, investigate incidents, and manage regulatory reporting and environmental permits where applicable.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent.
• IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management or equivalent.
• Ideally experience in chemical manufacturing or chemical distribution in an EHS role.
• Good working knowledge of EHS Management Systems.

Responsibilities

• Health & Safety Management: Support the site’s Health & Safety strategy in line with UK legislation (e.g. Health and Safety at Work Act 1974).
• Environmental Management: Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and permits (e.g. waste management, emissions, ISO 14001 where applicable).
• Compliance & Audits: Conduct regular inspections, audits, and risk assessments across site operations.
• Training & Engagement: Deliver EHS training and awareness programmes for employees and managers.
• Emergency Preparedness: Maintain emergency response plans and drills.

EHS Specialist

Fixed Term Contract until end Feb 2027

Based in Nuneaton, Coventry (open to applications from elsewhere in the UK)

Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an EHS Specialist to help drive EHSQ standards by providing competent support and advice on health, safety and environmental matters to the Univar Solutions business.

Key Responsibilities And Tasks

Health & Safety Management

• Support the site’s Health & Safety strategy in line with UK legislation (e.g. Health and Safety at Work Act 1974)
• Implement, and monitor safe systems of work, risk assessments, and method statements
• Ensure legislation compliance
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions are implemented
• Maintain accurate records and statutory reporting (including RIDDOR submissions where required)

Environmental Management

• Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and permits (e.g. waste management, emissions, ISO 14001 where applicable)
• Support environmental improvement initiatives, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, and sustainability programmes
• Conduct environmental audits and reporting requirements

Compliance & Audits

• Conduct regular inspections, audits, and risk assessments across site operations
• Prepare for and support with internal and external audits
• Ensure policies and procedures are up-to-date and aligned with legal requirements and best practice

Training & Engagement

• Deliver EHS training and awareness programmes for employees and managers
• Promote a strong safety culture through engagement, coaching, and behavioural safety initiatives
• Support leadership teams in understanding their safety responsibilities

Emergency Preparedness

• Maintain emergency response plans (fire, chemical spills, etc.)
• Support with emergency drills and ensure readiness across the organisation

Stakeholder Management

• Act as the main point of contact for HSE, Environment Agency, and other regulatory bodies
• Liaise with internal departments, contractors, and external partners to ensure compliance and best practice

We Are Looking For

• A proactive person who will form an integral part of the site team, while driving safety standards higher
• NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent & IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management or equivalent.
• Ideally, experience of working in the chemical manufacturing or chemical distribution industry in an EHS role.
• A good working knowledge of EHS Management Systems
