Job summary

Johnson Controls in the United Kingdom seeks a Project EHS Advisor to provide expert guidance on Environmental, Health and Safety matters for project teams and stakeholders, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and the company EHS system.

You will support planned and live projects within the regional remit, reporting to the UK&I EHS Manager and contributing to continuous improvement, risk assessment and incident investigations.

Qualifications

  • Member of IOSH with CMIOSH preferred.
  • CSCS MAP card holder is required.
  • 3–5 years minimum EHS experience on large projects.
  • Experience implementing EHS management systems and procedures.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills across stakeholders.
  • Full driving license is required.

Responsibilities

  • Advise and support project teams on environmental, health and safety matters to ensure legal compliance.
  • Develop project EHS plans, drive continuous improvement and monitor risk controls.
  • Present EHS data to clients and project leaders on a regular basis.
  • Investigate incidents, determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain relationships with clients, contractors and stakeholders to promote EHS culture.
  • Conduct internal audits and manage action closures; coordinate with enforcement authorities as needed.
  • Support training needs and ensure effective EHS management across projects.

What you will do

The Project EHS Advisor provides advice, support and help in Environmental, Health and Safety matters to Project Management teams and other stakeholders, to comply with relevant legislation. You will effectively support the implementation of the company EHS management system and best practices. The Project EHS Advisor provides support across planned/live projects taking place, within their regional remit.

This position reports directly to the UK&I EHS Manager and is based in the UK&I.

How You Will Do It
  • Act as a subject matter expert to project management teams and develop formal, project plans to drive continuous improvement across planned/ongoing projects
  • Meet regularly and present EHS data to clients, project leaders and their management teams
  • Provide support for effectively assessing and controlling risks on projects. Identify gaps and provide solutions to ensure compliance is achieved
  • Create, maintain and enhance effective working relationships with Clients, Project Managers, Supervisors, Employee representatives, Contractors and other key stakeholders
  • Promote and support the continuous development of a positive EHS culture on projects
  • Monitor and measure compliance with legal standards and establish effective follow up procedures to ensure any weaknesses are quickly and reliably addressed
  • Contribute to the proper drafting and effective communication of the projects EHS plans
  • Evaluate, develop, promote and support the establishment and maintenance of a comprehensive and effective EHS management system by contributing to the development of the project system
  • Identify project EHS training and development needs, and act on them
  • Assist in the solving of audit items contained in both internal, external and self-audit reports to ensure effective action is taken to solve these issues and concerns
  • Manage an internal audit programme for the facility and complete audits against plan. Support action item closure.
  • Issue reports and work with project managers with regard to their EHS Data, identify trends and champion EHS Initiatives.
  • Conduct regular walks with the project management teams to provide general support and problem solving.
  • Participate in project site meetings to ensure key points are discussed and that suitable action is taken on the matters raised
  • Carry out detailed investigations of more serious incidents on projects and draft appropriate reports including determining the root cause(s) of the incident and identify and implement appropriate actions to prevent recurrence
  • Liaise with enforcing authorities when issues are raised and deal with any follow up investigation or enforcement action to reduce or mitigate risk to the Company
  • Participate in Compliance forums to keep up to date with best practices and network with other EHS professionals to keep abreast of the latest innovations and developments in order to drive forward continuous improvement within the Company
  • Manage and maintain all environmental aspects and their associated impacts, through the development of an effective compliance calendar and implementation of an appropriate project management system
  • Assess all contractors’ processes and procedures to verify they meet the Company’s expected EHS standards and that their performance is satisfactory measured against agreed targets.

  • 3-5 Years minimum EHS experience on large and complex construction projects
  • Experience of implementing EHS Management Systems and supporting procedures
  • Drive and enthusiasm, a self-starter who can prioritize and work with agility in this type of environment
  • Full driving license required
