Job description

The purpose of the role is to provide outstanding leadership and management for the operational performance of pre-employment training across the group.

You will provide effective leadership of the operations teams leading to cascaded responsibility and empowerment. To lead and support innovation and quality improvements for all activities linked to strategic operational performance through the delivery teams as well as integration with the other operational areas. You will be accountable for performance of the operations function in its entirety.

The success of learners and the satisfaction of our employers and stakeholders and the drive for continual improvement will be your key driver. This success will be measured through effective quality performance indicators, meeting and or exceeding agreed key performance indicators, including high quality teaching and learning, positive learner and employer satisfaction, positive retentions rates, positive learner progress and achievements rates and high levels of positive progression and destination outcomes.

A hands-on management style will ensure you engender the support of your teams and genuinely ensure the business remains a provider of choice.

The role will report directly into the Group Director for Quality & Operations.

The successful candidate will undertake the following main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To establish and operate as an effective delivery function demonstrating consistent behaviours and communications back to the business to ensure all delivery is planned and resourced effectively
  • Leadership and Management of all operational processes and procedures aligned to the delivery of PET provision
  • To provide inspiration leadership to the operations teams including adult education, bootcamps, maths and English, in order to achieve or exceed company targets, ensuring profitability levels are maintained and improved.
  • To ensure staffing resources are maintained at the appropriate levels to meet the needs of clients.
  • To lead the operations teams to ensure that outstanding teaching, learning, training and assessment is provided in all sessions, and meets the needs of individuals based on group profiles, ensuring the requirements of all funding frameworks are met.
  • Produce and maintain effective learning systems to enable visibility and progress of all learners as a means of identifying intervention opportunities on a daily/weekly/monthly basis
  • To work with other managers to ensure that all necessary infrastructure, systems and processes are in place in order that learners are able to learn in a safe, supportive and welcoming environment
  • To support all Managers in identifying and implementing strategies for raising standards and narrowing the gap in achievement and attainment rates for all learners and groups of learners
  • Lead and ensure that our teams put learners and employers at the heart of the business resulting in life changing employment opportunities
  • To ensure that rigorous tracking and monitoring of learner progression is in place across the business, to determine and evidence destination reporting
  • Ensure target and performance indicators are achieved in accordance with business objectives and contracted targets
  • To lead, inspire and support teams and encourage creativity in order to embed excellence in customer experience internally and externally
  • Work with colleagues across the business to monitor the changing landscape of funding and sector requirements whilst identifying development areas that the business should act upon and coaching team members effectively
  • Develop a positive and supportive culture, working towards the highest standards, driving aspirations for all staff, learners and employers to reach for excellence
  • Provide clear, stretching and measurable targets for all staff through robust performance management and review to ensure a culture of continuous improvement
  • Work proactively with colleagues across the Group taking the initiative to resolve issues as they arise and contribute to appropriate Group meetings

The ideal candidate must possess the following Skills, Experience and Qualities:

  • It is essential to have proven experience of performing a similar role within the Work Based Learning/Skills sector.
  • Have extensive experience of managing operations within an educational setting
  • Have extensive experience of driving strategic Improvements
  • Experience and knowledge of Ofsted/ESFA related activities,
  • Experience of client and relationship management
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Able to follow processes
  • Enthusiasm in the work place
  • Work well under pressure
  • Excellent managerial and interpersonal skills
  • Experience of presenting at various levels, from senior management to low level skilled learners
  • Advanced time management and analytical skills
  • Have a full, clean driving licence and use of a vehicle
  • Must be flexible with travel

The ideal candidate may possess the following desirable Skills, Experience and Qualities:

  • Experience of working in a leadership/education role
  • Experience of working with education partners, particularly with delivery across multiple sectors and funding streams

The ideal candidate must possess the following qualifications:

  • Management Qualification
  • Educated to a minimum of GCSE grade C in English and Maths or equivalent
