Job description
Overview

Due to the promotion of existing postholders and growth in our service, we are delighted to be offering this exciting opportunity for Educational Psychologists (EPs) to join our friendly and supportive team working in the beautiful and historic city of York.

The Educational Psychology Service is consistently highly regarded by schools/settings and parents/carers.

As an EP in York, you will be working within a service model that supports a graduated approach through consultation, with a focus on building capacity at SEN support and providing high quality statutory assessments across the 0‑25 age range. We ensure a balance between statutory and non‑statutory work with protected time for a range of interests and strategic developments.

These include supporting the LA offer for neurodiverse children/young people and those barriers to education impacting on school attendance; developing ELSAs in schools; promoting a trauma‑informed city; advocating for the rights of the child and working as part of the virtual school. We lead the critical incident response in schools/settings.

The Educational Psychology Service is part of the integrated SEND service within the Education and Skills team. Teams are co‑located, and the compact geographical area in York ensures shorter travel journeys.

CYC is small enough to feel like a family, big enough to influence nationally.

Key Attributes
  • Committed to inclusive philosophy and strengths‑based practice
  • A valued team player who can be both supportive and a ‘critical friend’ to others
  • An excellent communicator with effective time management skills
  • Passionate about the application of psychology to promote person‑centred approaches and achieve better outcomes for children and young people aged 0 – 25 years
  • Committed to promoting inclusive mainstream practice within schools and settings

  • Consistent in your delivery of high‑quality assessment
  • Flexible and solution‑oriented – we embrace innovation and creativity
  • A proactive advocate of children’s rights
What We Can Offer
  • Excellent professional relationships in a dynamic and supportive team
  • A fair, predictable and manageable workload
  • Access to a full induction package
  • Regular individual, peer and group supervision, including an enhanced offer for newly qualified EPs
  • Reduced statutory allocation for newly qualified EPs
  • Excellent opportunities to develop specialist skills and work within multi‑agency teams
  • A commitment to developing and maintaining positive and consistent relationships with schools and settings through a link EP approach
  • Opportunities to undertake a wide range of CPD
  • Protected service development time for all EPs
  • Comprehensive IT support
  • Flexitime and hybrid working arrangements, including multiple bases across the city
