Overview

Are you a passionate and empathetic professional with a dedication to making a real difference in the lives of young people? We are seeking a caring and dedicated Education Therapeutic Teaching Assistant to provide vital one-on-one support to students in Key Stage 3 and 4 across Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) and Alternative Provisions in the Grimsby area.

In this role, you will work with students facing complex social, emotional, and mental health challenges. You'll use your skills to build therapeutic connections and offer personalised support, helping students develop emotional regulation, resilience, and positive coping strategies. If you're ready to empower young people to thrive, we want to hear from you.

Responsibilities

As a 1:1 Education Therapeutic Teaching Assistant, you will have a significant impact on students' lives by providing specialised, student-centered support. Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Individualised Therapeutic Support: Design and deliver effective one-to-one therapeutic mentoring and support sessions for students who need intensive emotional and behavioral guidance.

  • Building Relationships: Establish and maintain strong, trusting, and professional relationships with students to create a safe and supportive environment.

  • Needs Assessment & Intervention: Conduct informal assessments to understand a student's emotional and behavioral needs, then develop tailored intervention plans to promote their well-being.

  • Emotional Regulation & Resilience: Help students develop emotional literacy, self-regulation techniques, and effective strategies for managing challenges like anxiety and anger.

  • Safeguarding: Uphold the highest standards of child protection, adhering strictly to school policies and national guidelines such as "Keeping Children Safe in Education." You'll promptly report any concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, pastoral leaders, SENDCOs, parents/carers, and external agencies to ensure a holistic and coordinated approach to student support.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be someone with a genuine passion for supporting young people. You will also have:

  • Relevant Qualifications: A qualification in a related field such as Counselling, Therapeutic Practice, Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health Nursing, or Youth Work.

  • Experience: Proven experience (ideally 2+ years) working directly with young people aged 11-18 in a one-on-one therapeutic or intensive support role. Experience in a secondary school, PRU, or mental health setting is highly desirable.

  • Skills: Exceptional active listening and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust quickly. You should be patient, empathetic, and resilient, with a non-judgmental and solution-focused approach.

  • Knowledge: A comprehensive understanding of UK safeguarding legislation and "Keeping Children Safe in Education" guidance.
