Job Description:

This post is based at Naturezones.

We require a qualified primary school teacher for an average of 6 hrs a week on a self-employed basis for around 18 months. Hours will be flexible but you will need to engage with teachers at times when they are available, so the post could suit someone looking for term-time only work.

You will need to have an excellent understanding of the Primary National Curriculum for England programmes of study for Science at Key Stage 2, in particular the topics of Plants, Animals including Living things and their habitats and Evolution. Familiarity with the Key Stage 1 curriculum would also be an advantage.

The aim of this role is to bring primary schools to Naturezones for a dedicated scientific educational visit based upon the topic they are currently studying.

You will need to be able to engage with teachers as a professional and present an element of authority on the subject.

We have well versed instructors and teachers but depending on the increase in visits you may be required to assist in the running of some sessions.

The main role will be to engage directly with primary schools across the Isle of Wight. You will clearly explain the benefits of an educational visit to Naturezones. You will also explain that Naturezones is dedicated to the National Curriculum and all tuition is in real time, bringing their classroom lessons to life. Life cycles, food chains, surveys, identification, habitats and much, much more.

We have pre-prepared lesson plans to support the visit with pre-visit lesson and post-visit lesson. You may need to update these lesson plans.

The post is not limited to the tasks listed above and we expect it to evolve.

Qualifications
  • a friendly and approachable disposition while engaging with communities and the general public.
  • Evaluation and planning skills, including recording case studies. Evaluation will be an important part of this post as it will be used in our reporting to the Heritage Lottery.
  • excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to build successful partnerships.
  • flexibility and time management.
  • commitment to, passion for and belief in the organisation's aims.
  • initiative, creativity and good forward thinking.
  • the ability to multi-task and prioritise.
  • Enthusiasm to raise awareness about the importance of protecting and enhancing natural habitats.
  • the successful applicant will have an up to date enhanced DBS or agree to a DBS check.
