The successful candidate will provide strategic legal advice to higher education institutions, colleges and related organisations on governance, student matters, regulatory and data protection issues.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 years' PQE as a solicitor in England & Wales or equivalent.
• Strong interest and knowledge in Higher Education policy and sector developments.
• Demonstrable track record advising higher education institutions or educational organisations.
• Expertise in governance, investigations, student matters and data protection.
• Experience handling sensitive, high-profile matters with senior stakeholders.
• Strong commercial judgment and risk management capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal advice to higher education institutions, colleges and related organisations on governance, student, regulatory and data protection matters.
• Advise international pathway providers on arrangements with universities and OFS registration.
• Assist with safeguarding challenges and related litigation.
• Handle data protection work including FOI, data breaches and data sharing.
• Advise on Freedom of Speech/No platforming and related litigation.
• Manage litigation arising from students as consumers.
• Provide regulatory advice on mergers and acquisitions within the education sector, including insolvencies and distressed purchases.
• Advise educational institutions and charities on safeguarding obligations and investigations.
