Job summary

Shropshire Council’s education legal team is seeking a qualified solicitor, barrister or Chartered Legal Executive to manage a varied education law caseload, providing clear, practical advice across SEND, school admissions, exclusions, complaints, equality duties, tribunal proceedings and judicial review.

The post offers the opportunity to deliver high-quality legal services to Children’s Services and to support or cover colleagues as needed, bringing sound professional judgement and ownership

Qualifications

• Qualified solicitor, barrister or Chartered Legal Executive with post-qualification experience in education law, SEND law or general litigation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex issues into clear, practical advice.
• Sound professional judgement and capacity to manage a varied caseload and ownership of files.

Responsibilities

• Manage a varied education law caseload across SEND, school admissions, exclusions, complaints, equality duties, tribunal proceedings and judicial review.
• Provide clear, practical legal advice to Children’s Services and the Council; deliver high-quality legal services within Legal and Democratic Services.
• Support or cover colleagues when required and undertake relevant training to develop expertise.
• Demonstrate curiosity, adaptability and a proactive approach to prioritising cases and workload.
