Somerset County Council is seeking an Education and Engagement Officer to safeguard and promote educational access for children, young people and adults with SEN. You will work with schools, early years settings and partners to address safeguarding issues and support attendance and engagement in education.

The role is based in Shepton Mallet at the Shape Mendip office, with 31 hours per week and a permanent contract.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the Education Act 1996/2002 and Children Act 1989/2004.
• Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures.
• Awareness of equality, diversity, and inclusion policies.
• Experience with children and young people including SEND.
• Experience in safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• Experience building relationships with education providers and stakeholders.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.

Responsabilités

• Hold an allocation of education providers including early years settings, colleges and schools.
• Advise and support settings to resolve safeguarding issues and participate in child protection procedures.
• Follow processes and work with parents and schools to ensure SEN access to education.
• Build and maintain relationships with attendance leads, head teachers and professionals.
• Promote safeguarding and welfare of children and support providers with relevant policies.
