The Education Advisor will be passionate about securing effective support for children and young adults and will contribute to strategic priorities and projects within the service. The post is instrumental in helping the local authority deliver an excellent service for all children in our care and young adults leaving care.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the statutory Personal Education Plan (PEP) process for children and young people in care.
  • Lead on promoting best practice to support educational achievement for the priority group.
  • Work closely with a broad professional network around the child, including parents, carers, schools, and education and social care professionals.
  • Contribute to strategic priorities and projects within the Virtual School service and operate within a phase-focused team to improve outcomes.
  • Engage with children and young people to discuss high aspirations and communicate expectations to professionals, partners and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of educational needs and expertise in identifying appropriate routes to assessment and support.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Knowledge and experience in education, with the ability to guide and support young adults who may be in secondary school, in 6th form or college, in an apprenticeship or employment, seeking education, employment or training, or becoming more independent as they leave care at 18.
  • Ability to work with young people who have additional learning needs, including those with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
  • Strong communication skills to interact with children, families, schools, and professional networks.
  • Understanding of safeguarding principles and commitment to promoting welfare of children and vulnerable young people.
Safeguarding, Equalities and Language Requirements

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and vulnerable adults. The council has a statutory duty under relevant legislation to ensure staff have a command of spoken English sufficient for the role.
