EDM Machinist/Programmer

About the Role

A vacancy has arisen for an EDM Machinist/Programmer to join our main Machine Shop.

Reporting to a Machine Shop Team Leader, the EDM Programmer/Machinist will be responsible for programming, setting, and operating EDM equipment (wire and/or sinker), using Siemens NX and/or AC CAM software to create and optimise EDM programs. The role involves producing precision machined components for our F1 race car, wind tunnel and customer programmes, ensuring the highest standards of quality and efficiency.

Key Accountabilities
  • Setting and operating EDM machines (wire and/or sinker) to achieve maximum efficiency and the highest quality standards for precision engineered metallic components.
  • Use of Siemens NX and/or AC CAM software to create EDM programs for high-complexity components, focusing on code optimisation and troubleshooting.
  • Maximising throughput and overall machine tool efficiency.
  • Ensuring adherence to all processes and procedures throughout manufacture to maintain quality standards.
  • Working dynamically to meet challenging deadlines within a fast-paced environment.
  • Providing clear, effective communication across all shifts.
  • Demonstrating a continuous improvement mindset and creating a positive profile for themselves and the department.
Candidate Profile
  • A recognised apprenticeship and relevant engineering qualifications.
  • Proven experience in setting and operating EDM machines. Experience with AgieCharmilles EDM machines, Siemens NX and/or AC CAM software for EDM programming is highly advantageous.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Able to remain focused and objective under pressure.
  • A logical, process-driven mindset to solve complex problems.
