Overview

We are seeking an Editorial Section Manager for Heliyon, an all-science, open access, Cell Press journal. This is an exciting opportunity for university graduates to start their career in scientific publishing. Reporting to a Deputy Editorial Team Leader, the Editorial Section Manager will be part of our editorial support teams in the United Kingdom, China and India with the primary responsibility of coordinating the flow of new and revised manuscripts from submission through publication. Scientific literacy in the life, medical, physical or social sciences is required for the role.

Responsibilities
  • Review newly submitted manuscripts for ethical and scientific compliance and completeness.
  • Review to-be-accepted manuscripts for adherence to our publishing and ethical standards.
  • Spot‑check the performance of external academic editors and provide structured feedback to internal colleagues.
  • Support technical queries from external editors.
  • Contribute to the systematic chasing of pending tasks and the management of a backlog.
  • Assist in the editorial process as required as the journal evolves.
Qualifications
  • Have a BSc degree (or equivalent) in life, medical, social or physical sciences.
  • Possess an enthusiastic attitude, great analytical skill and the ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Be able to adapt to change, handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously and prioritize individually.
  • Have great interpersonal skills within an international team.
  • Be able to work equally well collaboratively or individually without continuous supervision in an ever‑changing environment.
  • Be PC proficient with expertise in Microsoft Office (particularly Outlook and Excel).
