Editorial Assistant, Alliance Publishing Trust

Alliance Publishing Trust is looking for an editorial assistant to support the team with a range of editorial responsibilities, ensuring all work is completed accurately and on schedule. A keen eye for detail and demonstratable previous copyediting experience is essential. Prior experience in the philanthropic sector would be an advantage, though not required.

Working pattern: approximately three days per month. The candidate must be able to meet Alliance's core working hours.

Main responsibilities

Uploading individual articles to the Alliance CMS (WordPress) in a timely and accurate manner, with an understanding of SEO and an eye for details and layout

  • Preparing and publishing approved copy (including text and images) on the Alliance website in advance of the digital launch of the print magazine each quarter
  • Supporting photo research for the print magazine
  • Assisting with the print magazine mail out each quarter
  • Assisting with editing interview transcripts and performing basic copyediting tasks as required
  • Providing editorial support by writing and uploading news stories to support the news editor
  • Other administrative tasks to support the Alliance editorial team, such as cataloguing submissions to open calls or applications

Alliance Publishing Trust (APT) aims to facilitate the exchange of ideas among people in philanthropy working for social change. We aspire to contribute to building an effective, accountable and thriving philanthropy field by being a 'critical friend' to philanthropy worldwide.

To do this we produce Alliance magazine, the leading quarterly publication for philanthropy and social investment worldwide and respected in the sector for nearly thirty years. Providing a special in-depth feature on some key aspect of philanthropy and social investment, with contributors from around the world and expert guest editors as well as interviews, news, book reviews, and conference reports.

We also produce over 700 items of online content per year: providing premium interviews and articles published exclusively every Tuesday, daily free-to-read sector news, weekly coverage of climate and gender philanthropy, monthly columns, and more. In addition to written content, we convene up to 19 events a year to discuss the latest topics in philanthropy with speakers and attendees across the globe.

With a core staff team based in London, valued freelance support and a team of representatives around the world we work with the leading organisations and practitioners worldwide to deliver our charitable mission.
