Job summary

Bonnier Books UK is seeking an exceptional Editor to join Studio Press, home to Disney, Marvel and Star Wars licensed books. This hybrid role requires two days in the office and up to three days at home, based in London.

You will manage and creatively guide the development of books with major licenses, coordinating with design and production to ensure high editorial quality. There is room for new ideas and acquisitions within a supportive team.

General Summary

Are you a football fanatic and a pop culture aficionado? We're looking for someone who's a fan of the beautiful game, and who's obsessed with global entertainment brands like Disney, Marvel and Star Wars, to help us grow our hugely successful list of fan-first books for all ages.

We have an exciting opportunity for a talented and highly creative editor to join our license and trend-led imprint, Studio Press. Studio is the home of a hugely successful Disney, Marvel and Star Wars list, covering all ages from pre-school to adult, plus the best-selling Ultimate Football Heroes series.

The successful candidate will project manage and creatively guide the development of books with some of the biggest licenses in the business, ensuring that all titles are produced to an exceptional editorial quality. As part of a supportive and friendly team, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of the programme through new ideas and acquisitions.

We are looking for an exceptional editor with good knowledge of the licensed books market, as well as sport, movies and TV, gaming and pop culture/trends in general. You'll be creative, flexible, solution-focused, fast-moving and possess the fantastic communication and project management skills needed to work on a diverse, dynamic list. You will also need solid editing and writing skills, as well as the ability to prioritise competing deadlines and work collaboratively with colleagues both internally and outside the business.

Key responsibilities
  • Originate, develop, research, copy-edit, proofread and sign-off on a wide range of books (predominantly full-colour illustrated licensed books for the UK, US and international co-edition markets) across different formats and novelties to make the best product possible
  • Manage project schedules in conjunction with design and production, ensuring all books hit critical path deadlines
  • Editorially guide and coordinate the books in line with the editorial and creative briefs, making sure all files are coordinated through the correct approval workflow for the team
  • Make sure all files are editorially accurate and produced to the required quality during all stages of development
  • Ensure that all Studio Press books are produced to house style and fulfil the in-house brief
  • Research and suggest ideas for the future publishing list, showing awareness of marketplace and trends, not just in the UK but also in the US and in key co-edition markets around the world (Asia and Europe)
Qualifications and Experience
  • A creative mindset and genuine interest in writing, layout and design
  • An advanced understanding of the technical requirements of full-colour co-edition publishing
  • An advanced understanding of formats, age-ranges and subject matters
  • An advanced understanding of the Editorial Process and InDesign
  • Comfortable with processes, systems and spreadsheets
  • Comfortable multitasking, prioritising competing deadlines and problem-solving your way through unexpected situations
  • Strong copy-editing and proofreading skills
  • A good understanding of the marketplace and our target audiences
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills
  • A commercial thinker, with great attention to detail and an insightful organizer
  • A good role model with a positive, can-do attitude
