Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated experienced midwife to join our Edith Dare Ward as Ward Manager at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust Hospital.

We are seeking a dynamic midwife with excellent standard of care to contribute to a safe, efficient and quality driven antenatal service at both Queen Charlotte and Chelsea Hospital. Previous experience in delivering high standard postnatal care and working within in-patient ward settings is desirable.

You will have the necessary skills and confidence to practice autonomously and be committed to ensuring that women, birthing persons, babies and their families receive the care and support required to promote optimum outcomes and positive experiences.

It is expected that you will be educated to degree level, have a keen interest in patient safety, quality improvement, on-going clinical development, an awareness of research based evidence / guidelines, have experience of mentorship, leadership and have competent IT skills.

Main duties of the job
  • Participate in the provision of effective individualised, women-centred, evidence-based midwifery care
  • Provide management and support to a designated staff group
  • Ensure the effective use of resources within allocated budget
  • Provide professional leadership and participate in the education and training of all staff
  • Lead the midwifery team in the hospital by acting as a role model for staff providing clinical expertise and advice
  • Maintain own professional practice and that of others in line with Nursing and Midwifery Council guidance and statutory Midwives Rules and Standards
  • Sickness and absence management
  • Carry out annual performance and development reviews
  • Participate in the investigation of complaints
  • Roster management and use of safer staffing tools such as Birth Rate plus
  • To act as an advocate and support for parents
