This is a fixed-term role for 100 days over 12 months, offering the opportunity to create impactful policy interventions.

Job description
EDI Research Lead — Equitable Futures in Screen

100 days over 12 months (1/4/2026–31/3/2027, break clause 30/11/2027) Working under the direction of Professor Jonathan Freeman on the EDI workstream of the BFI Innovation Challenge Fund–funded project.

Key Responsibilities

1. Mapping and Analysis

  • Conduct desk research and a literature review to understand current activity—and gaps—in the EDI landscape.
  • Analyse existing data, public information, and research databases.
  • Draw on insights from the CoSTAR Foresight Lab to build a clear evidence base for engagement and scenario development.

2. Engagement Series

  • Lead and moderate stakeholder workshops focused on EDI, supported by the Challenge Fund Producer.
  • Share insights from the mapping work and gather lived-experience feedback to validate and refine findings.
  • Where relevant, co-host sessions with other workstreams (AI & Workforce, Carbon Leadership).

3. Foresight Scenario Development

  • Work with the Challenge Fund Producer to help develop future scenarios using CoSTAR Foresight Lab methodologies.
  • Contribute to workshops with stakeholders, experts, and the CoSTAR Foresight Board to identify signals, trends, and possible futures.

4. Prototype Interventions: Toolkits & Methods

  • Lead the creation of toolkits and methodologies addressing priority issues identified through Mapping, Engagement, and Scenario work.
  • Collaborate with the Challenge Fund Producer on design and development.

5. Place-Based Policy Pilots

  • Partner with the Foresight Lab Policy team to co-design and help deliver a place-based policy pilot.
  • Work with industry partners and a Combined Authority or Devolved Administration to test practical interventions.

6. Outputs & Dissemination

  • Produce accessible and engaging documentation across all tasks.
  • Contribute to reports, guides, toolkits, policy recommendations, and workshop materials.
  • Support development of rich media outputs (e.g., podcasts, videos, blog posts) to extend project reach.
