Job Description

The EDA / CAE Support Engineer is a key role within highly skilled team responsible for delivering a full suite of Electronics/Firmware/Microwave design and development tools to over 500 engineers.

Primarily based out of Luton (with hybrid working), working as part of a cross-site team to support, enhance and configure the tool chain to meet the increasingly advanced needs of the cutting-edge developments of the UK Electronics teams.

This role also could extend into our UK Systems Engineering team who use similar infrastructure to support their domain specific toolsets, specifically MBSE.

What you will do
  • Download, install, configure and manage all Design Tools for Electronics and Microwave Engineering
  • Download, install, configure and manage Design Tools for Systems Engineering in a cross functional capacity, working with functional domain experts
  • Develop, roll out and maintenance of toolset data integrations used to support the engineering digital backbone
  • Plan and manage the hardware and operating systems to support the tools, including hotfixes, patches and dealing with security vulnerabilities
  • Configure and manage software licensing from multiple vendors.
  • Collaborate to provide cross-site support cover for Design Tools at UK sites.
  • Assist end users in the resolution of day-to-day tool bugs.
  • Liaise with external vendors to achieve timely resolution of problems.
  • Maintain existing documentation of the system and create user guides
  • Uphold the “One Leonardo” Design Tools strategy for the UK.
What you will bring

Essential skills:

  • Qualification or extensive experience in Tool debugging and User Support
  • Sound knowledge of LINUX and Windows OS including scripting (Python, Perl, etc.)
  • Good knowledge of toolset integration methodologies and open standards
  • Good knowledge of typical end-to-end PCB, Microwave and Firmware Design Processes
  • Ability to configure new and complex toolsets
  • Knowledge of storage devices and security permissions
  • Awareness of security and the principle of “permissions of least access” for designers

Desired skills:

  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office XL and other Office Tools at an entry level
  • VBS scripting is desirable but not essential.
