Position Statement

The Emergency Department Tech (EDT) is a dual role of unit clerk and hands‑on technician. The EDT works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse while providing care to patients in varying states of health and illness during their time in the Emergency Department. The EDT functions as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team and should be fully versed in all areas of the Emergency Department operations. The EDT must have the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and exhibit willingness and the ability to engage in professional communication.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assists with obtaining vital signs, helps patients into an exam gown and connects them to a cardiac monitor.
  • Transports stable patients to radiology, cardiology, between nursing units, to their room if being admitted and to their personal vehicle when discharged.
  • Obtains specimens including urine, sputum, feces, blood, and blood cultures as directed by the registered nurse and delivers to the laboratory.
  • Cleans rooms and used equipment using universal precaution standards.
  • Restocks rooms, carts, and fluid/blanket warmer every shift and as needed.
  • Performs EKGs, assists with teaching crutch walking techniques, applies splints, slings, and other devices as ordered by the provider.
  • Accurately documents completed treatments, measurements, and assistance with procedures in the patient record.
  • Scans appropriate documents in the electronic medical record as appropriate.
  • Orders supplies and equipment, maintains inventory; receives and returns to storage.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalency.
  • EMT or LNA certification or working toward completing.
  • BLS Certification.
  • One‑year EMT experience preferred.
Pay Information:

$16.44‑$22.60 hourly
