Job description
Overview

The Team: The Models & Scenarios team is responsible for the development and maintenance of economic models, conducting scenario analysis, and deploying economic analytics to help our clients make better decisions. We work closely with our Insights and Analysis regional teams to support the forecasting process, to develop new models and analytical tools, as well as other parts of S&P Global with economic and financial analyses. We also provide clients with bespoke analyses to help them quantify their strategic, political, and operational risks. The Impact: Working with teams in S&P Global Market Intelligence and S&P Global Energy, you will lead a team developing a suite of probabilistic graph models for critical minerals analysis. You will own the vision and execution for the analytics, and as such you will guide strategic development, mentor talent, and drive innovation across the Models & Scenario team. What's in it for you: The successful applicant will be a leader on a team of modelers who will help develop, ideate, and market test innovative products in the supply chain space. You will have an opportunity to work with subject matter experts in the areas of maritime, trade, supply chain, macroeconomics and geopolitics to build analytical tools that can help our clients make better decisions.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee development and enhancement of graph models for critical mineral supply chains.
  • Drive integration of external data sources (e.g., satellite imagery, trade flows, shipping signals) into analytics tools.
  • Lead development of economic models across sectors such as energy transition, financial markets, climate risk, and geopolitical forecasting.
  • Integrate macroeconomic indicators and policy scenarios into modeling platforms to support strategic decision‑making.
  • Improve workflows, QC systems, and benchmarking tools to ensure quality of data.
  • Ensure successful delivery of consulting projects and other high‑value contracts, including price and regional supply‑demand modeling for critical minerals.
  • Build, train, and mentor a team of economists and econometricians.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and ownership.
  • Craft roadmaps to incorporate other advanced analytical techniques and AI into the suite of analytical tools.
  • Act as a technical lead in advanced sales conversations and support pre‑sales materials.

We pride ourselves on our agility and diversity, and we welcome requests to work flexibly. For most roles, flexible hours and/or an element of remote working are usually possible. Please talk to us at interview about the type of arrangement that is best for you. We will always try to be adaptable wherever we can.

Basic Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in economics, statistics, econometrics or related fields.
  • Extensive proven experience in AI, Data Science, economic modeling, and supply chain analytics.
  • Strong leadership and team‑building skills.
  • Expertise in Python and advanced modeling frameworks.
  • Willingness and ability to coach junior colleagues.
  • Excellent oral and writing skills and an interest in communicating advanced and technical economic ideas to a non‑professional audience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Track record of delivering large‑scale projects.
  • Familiarity with graph models and optimization techniques.
