Job description
Overview

Are you an ecologist with experience working on major infrastructure projects? Do you have experience working both on design and construction delivery of ecological projects? Rate: £450-£500 (Outside IR35). Location: Birmingham. Job type: Contract (Long-term). Start Date: ASAP. This is a primarily desk-based role supporting the route-wide ecology lead. The position requires a flexible individual who can work across both design and construction delivery, focusing on technical standards, policy, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical, desk-based support to the route-wide ecology team.
  • Manage tasks related to licensing, mitigation, and policy.
  • Write reports and ensure compliance with technical standards and the ecological monitoring strategy.
  • Update Ecological Site Management Plans (ESMPs) and address discrepancies.
  • Independently manage and deliver assigned scopes of work.
Required Experience
  • A background in ecological consultancy is highly desirable.
  • Strong experience in licensing and mitigation.
  • Desk-based technical experience on HS2 is beneficial.
  • Excellent report writing skills and attention to detail.
  • A broad, generalist understanding of ecology rather than a specific species specialism.
