Ecologist : Exeter

An established environmental consultancy are looking for an Ecologist to join its growing team in Exeter. The role involves contributing to a range of ecological survey and assessment work across the South West and further afield.

The company provides ecological and environmental services for a wide range of clients, including developers, planning consultants, and public sector organisations. The Exeter team works on projects of varying scale, primarily in the South West.

Main Responsibilities
  • Carrying out field surveys including habitat and protected species work
  • Writing reports such as Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Ecological Impact Assessments, and species‑specific mitigation plans
  • Supporting with data analysis and mapping
  • Liaising with clients and statutory bodies where appropriate
  • Assisting with project delivery under guidance from senior team members
  • Contributing to internal quality control and mentoring of junior staff where needed
Requirements
  • Degree in ecology or related subject
  • At least 2 years of experience in ecological consultancy
  • Practical knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and relevant planning policy
  • Experience conducting a range of ecological surveys
  • Competent in ecological reporting and data handling
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Membership of CIEEM (or working towards it)
  • A protected species licence (e.g. bats or GCN) is desirable but not essential
