Opportunity with the Civil Works Alliance (CWA): Ecologist

We have a unique opportunity to join the Civil Works Alliance (CWA) as an Ecologist on the landmark Sizewell C project. We are developing a 3.2-gigawatt power station that will generate low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes, playing a crucial role in our sustainable energy future for decades to come.

About the Role

As an Ecologist, you will be an integral part of the Environmental Team, reporting to the Environmental Sustainability Manager at our Suffolk site. You will lead and coordinate ecological mitigation efforts, ensuring legislative compliance and ecological protection during the construction phase. Your presence will be vital as an Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW), implementing ecological controls through supervision, site monitoring, and advisory services.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Lead the delivery of ecological requirements as outlined in project documents and statutory approvals.
  • Develop and implement ecological method statements and management plans.
  • Collaborate with regulators, clients, design, and internal teams to uphold ecological standards.
  • Ensure compliance with ecological legislation and licensing conditions, coaching construction teams in best practices.
  • Investigate ecological incidents and report findings with corrective actions.
  • Provide technical advice and support to operational teams regarding ecological matters.
  • Monitor on-site activities to ensure adherence to ecological controls, conducting site walkovers and briefs.
  • Deliver ecological toolbox talks, briefings, and coaching to site operatives and management.
Your Expertise And Experience
  • Degree or Master's level education in Ecology or a related subject.
  • Proven experience in the Civils/Utilities/Major Construction industry, particularly in Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs).
  • Previous experience as an ECoW, with practical experience and knowledge of environmental legislation and ecology mitigation.
  • Membership with professional institutions such as the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Managers or Association of Environmental Clerk of Works.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence environmental and sustainability outcomes.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Qualifications Required
  • Full UK driver’s licence and willingness to travel.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
