Qualifications

Job description

Astute's Power Team is seeking an EC&I Technician to join a brand new Energy from Waste Power Station located in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire. The facility is soon to enter the commissioning phase and will provide a vital outlet for the sustainable disposal of over 500,000 tonnes of residual waste per year, generating up to 49.9 megawatts of low‑carbon energy – enough to power more than 75,000 homes.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Pre‑planned and reactive maintenance of all electrical, controls and instrumentation assets across the power station.
  • Fault finding and maintenance of motors, drives, single‑phase and three‑phase equipment, switchgear, high/low‑voltage plant and instrumentation (pressure, temperature, level & flow).
  • Calibrating instrumentation.
  • Conducting continuous improvement activities, plant modifications and design work.
  • Supervising third‑party contractors.
  • Working in line with maintenance techniques and best practices.
  • Assisting in plant developments and projects.
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records in the site CMMS.
  • Assisting in outage planning, scheduling and coordination.
  • Ensuring availability of plant spares.
Professional Qualifications
  • Recognised Electrical / C&I apprenticeship in a heavy process industry (preferred).
  • Relevant technical qualification such as an NVQ / ONC / HNC in Electrical, Control or Instrumentation engineering or a similar discipline.
  • IOSH or NEBOSH certification (advantageous).
Personal Skills and Experience
  • At least 5 years of hands‑on maintenance experience with motors, switchgear, instrumentation (flow, level, pressure, temperature, etc.) and control systems (SCADA, DCS and PLC).
  • Practical knowledge of process plant and equipment gained in a heavy engineering environment such as power generation, petrochemical, steel works, CHP plant, paper mill, etc.; Royal Navy Marine Engineers will also be considered.
  • Experience with high‑voltage equipment such as transformers and switchgear (advantageous).
