Job summary

The City of Edinburgh Council is seeking an Early Years Practitioner for Gylemuir Primary School on a fixed-term contract until 28 August 2026. The role covers 36 hours per week across 52 weeks, with shift patterns from 07:45 to 15:30 or 10:15 to 18:00.

You will work in the Early Years Hub (Terrific 2), supporting and nurturing 2 to 3 year olds. Candidates must hold an HNC in Childcare and Education or SVQ Level 3 or SCQF Level 7, and PVG/Overseas checks are required before starting.

Qualifications

• Requires relevant childcare qualification (see education section).
• PVG scheme or PVG update check required prior to employment.
• Overseas Criminal Record Check may be needed for UK departures in last 5 years.

Responsibilities

• Support and nurture 2- to 3-year-olds within the Early Years Hub (Terrific 2).
• Work in a 52-week nursery with 36 hours per week across two shift patterns.
• Assist in providing high-quality care from 8am to 6pm and follow safeguarding checks.

Salary: £30,188 - £34,452

We are looking for an Early Years Practitioner to join our enthusiastic and committed early years team. You will be working in our in Early Years Hub (Terrific 2), where you will support and nurture our 2 to 3 year olds. Our nursery is open 52 weeks per year the team work in shift patterns to provide excellent care from 8am to 6pm. To be considered for this role you will hold an HNC in Childcare and Education or SVQ Level 3 or Social Services (Children and Young People) SCQF Level 7.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. Anunconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
