Job summary

Bright Horizons The Park Day Nursery and Preschool in Watford is seeking a full-time Early Years Apprentice to join our warm, Ofsted-rated Good setting. You’ll learn on the job, support babies and children up to age 5, and work alongside a supportive team.

Applicants should be committed to completing Maths and English qualifications (GCSE C/Level 4 or Functional Skills 2) and have a genuine passion for making learning fun.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to completing Apprenticeship Maths and English qualification (GCSE Grade C / Level 4 or above, or Functional Skills Level 2).
  • Previous experience with children is beneficial but not required.
  • Passion for making learning fun and engaging for each child.
  • Ability to build trust and strong working relationships with colleagues and parents.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with children and adults.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a nursery team caring for babies and children up to age 5.
  • Support children through interactive play, reading and learning activities.
  • Communicate daily with parents about their child’s activities.
  • Create a caring environment where children feel safe and looked after.
  • Support safeguarding, health and safety procedures at all times.
  • Collaborate with your Assessor and attend required training for qualification completion.

Nursery: Bright Horizons The Park Day Nursery and Preschool

Salary: £29,432 per annum (dependant on qualification/s and experience)

Hours - 40 Hours Per Week | Mon-Fri | Permanent

Location: Watford, WD18

The nursery is Ofsted rated 'Good', and is situated in Watford in a beautiful converted Victorian house. The 63-place setting has four rooms across three floors. It is very local to the Watford town centre and has great transport links- the Watford metropolitan station is very close by, and Watford Junction is just a 10 minute walk.

What you’ll be doing
  • Working as part of a nursey team looking after babies and children up to the age of 5.
  • Having daily adventures with our children through interactive play, activities, reading and helping them with their curious minds through the learning curriculum
  • Communicating with parents daily on their child’s activities
  • Provide a caring and supporting environment where the children feel safe and looked after
  • Creating play and learning opportunities that support the children’s learning
  • Promote and ensure child welfare, protection, health and safety and safeguarding procedures and policies are followed at all times
  • Working alongside your Assessor, including attending all training required for completion of your formal qualification
  • Having the ability to manage own time to complete required coursework in the given timeframe
  • Driving own development through the active participation in appraisals, one-to-ones, and requesting supervisions where required
  • Reflecting and proactively utilising new ideas and initiatives, including feedback, to enhance development and learning
What we’re looking for
  • Commitment to completing your Apprenticeship Maths and English qualification GCSE Grade C / Level 4 or above, or Functional Skills Level 2. If not already held, a willingness to complete Functional Skills alongside apprenticeship.
  • Previous experience working with children beneficial, but not essential - Nursery Bank Staff, Nursery Assistant, Teaching Assistant, Nursery Practitioner, Early Years Educator, Nanny, Childminder or similar.
  • Passion for making learning fun and engaging for each child
  • Ability to build trust and strong working relationships with both colleagues and parents
  • Ability to use a variety of techniques to clearly and successfully communicate with both children and adults
