EAL Teaching Assistant (Full time, temporary)

Location: Nottingham, NG3

Start Date: January 5th, 2026

Salary: £90-£120 per day

Education Personnel is supporting a warm, inclusive primary school in the NG3 area of Nottingham to recruit a committed EAL (English as an Additional Language) Teaching Assistant. This setting is known for its multilingual support hub, where pupils and families new to the UK receive tailored induction, language support, and community outreach—all embedded within a vibrant, culturally diverse school environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled and enthusiastic EAL Teaching Assistant to play a key role in helping pupils with varying levels of English proficiency to feel confident, included, and able to access learning across the curriculum.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide targeted language support to pupils with EAL across EYFS, KS1 and KS2
  • Deliver small-group and 1:1 interventions focused on vocabulary development, speaking, listening, reading, and writing
  • Support pupils’ access to the curriculum by pre-teaching key concepts and reinforcing classroom learning
  • Collaborate with class teachers to adapt resources and scaffold activities for learners with emerging English
  • Contribute to the school’s multilingual hub by supporting new arrivals and helping families engage with school life
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, feeding back to teachers and the EAL lead
  • Promote an inclusive, respectful environment that celebrates cultural and linguistic diversity
  • Support wider school life, including family workshops, cultural events, and ongoing professional development
Requirements
  • Experience supporting pupils with EAL in a primary school or similar educational setting
  • Strong understanding of language acquisition and strategies for supporting learners new to English
  • Ability to differentiate resources and scaffold learning for pupils at varying stages of proficiency
  • Confident in delivering small-group or 1:1 language interventions
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to liaise sensitively with families from diverse backgrounds
  • A positive, patient, and nurturing approach
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or 3 TA qualification, CELTA/TEFL knowledge advantageous but not essential)
  • Willingness to contribute to a collaborative, supportive staff team
