Visual Evidence Technician

Job Purpose

To provide dedicated support ensuring investigative staff have access to appropriate equipment and exhibits are handled in a forensic manner. Support Visual Evidence investigations involving digital storage devices by providing access to exhibits, ensuring the unit remains at the forefront of forensic Visual Evidence Practice. All activities will adhere to relevant quality standards and regulations.

Knowledge and Experience
  • Significant knowledge or experience in retrieving, processing, and producing evidential data in a digital forensic context.
  • Understanding of Core Investigative Doctrine and MIRSAP procedures is desirable.
  • Ability to identify components within CCTV systems, VCRs, DVRs, and basic knowledge of network protocols and cloud-based CCTV systems.
  • Proficiency with forensic hardware and software tools relevant to the role.
  • Understanding of criminal investigation procedures, rules of evidence, and legislation such as the Investigatory Powers Act and Criminal Procedure Investigation Act.
  • Knowledge of the Forensic Science Regulators Code of Practice and standards such as ISO 17020, ISO 17025, ILAC-G19.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to advise personnel and courts accurately.
  • Problem-solving skills and commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Understanding of health and safety standards, accreditation requirements, and ability to use standard computer software.
  • Must hold a full driving license, be prepared to qualify as a Police driver, and complete relevant safety and manual handling courses.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and potentially relocate within the Force.
