What is the opportunity?

The Head of Middle Office will be the primary strategic leader in the establishment of a Middle Office function for Banking. The Middle Office will provide support to coverage teams across Banking including, but not limited to, portfolio operations, loan reporting, KYC, and anti-money laundering. The Middle Office function will be a part of the broader MHBK Banking Front Office.

The creation of the Middle Office will centralise operational roles from within the front office teams and will provide operational processing support as well as acting as a check and balance, enhancing first line of defence. The Head of Middle Office will combine client and operational knowledge and provide strong functional alignment with both Coverage and Operations, building a key part of the Banking org design.

What will you be doing?

Strategic Leadership:

  • Design and implementation of the a centralised Middle Office function to support the EMEA CIB Banking business, optimizing processes and workflows to drive efficiency and scalability.
  • Work with cross-Bank stakeholders to deliver processes and systems required to support the coverage and product teams for the long term
  • Engage with coverage, product and operations team leads to ensure respective responsibilities are understood and clear
  • Act as a project lead / owner for key operational impact initiatives, providing support to EMEA management

Risk Management and Compliance:

  • Establish and maintain robust risk management frameworks (revise IOP) and controls specific to front office activities in the EMEA region, ensuring compliance with regional regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Coordinate with front office teams, credit risk management, and legal counsel to facilitate smooth loan origination and ongoing control activities within the EMEA region.
  • Identify potential issues/events that could affect performance, resources, schedule, budget, scope and/or deadline; escalate issues to appropriate parties & drive resolution

What do you need to succeed?

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of MHBK credit and operational policy and procedures
  • Expertise leading and change management, with experience in building high performing Credit / Middle Office functions
  • Experience leading a central function providing a shared service to coverage / product teams
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and balance the requirements of multiple stakeholders with sometimes competing objectives
  • Experience of implementing governance and control

  • Maintain transparent communication to provide clear direction to the team
  • Strong decision-making skills to efficiently delegate tasks
  • Foster the spirit of teamwork and cohesiveness across the team
  • Motivate the team to complete tasks to a high standard
  • Empower individuals to take responsibility for their goals
  • Coach, mentor and develop the team in a positive and constructive manner
